My goal with this poster diptych was to create a modern, clean feeling poster set inspired by the classic arcade game Joust. I envisioned a poster that wouldn’t advertise to new people unfamiliar with the property, but instead existing fans for a home wall or in an arcade.

I used the striped background to create a sense of motion across the piece, with the silhouettes of the bird sprites reinforcing the fast nature of the gameplay. All of the colors are sourced from the game’s sprites for Players One and Two, which is what gave me the idea for the diptych in the first place.

I wrote the classic screen introduction for the game, “Prepare to Joust, Buzzard Bait!” in Futura PT Condensed in Book and Bold, because the clean font still had a bit of a fun character that meshed well with the rest of the imagery.
