Geek Heaven

Mobile ui mockup

Digital

This assignment was to create an idea for a mobile app, then make a logo and pair of icons for that app. Since I use my phone’s stargazing app almost every time I find myself under the stars, I thought it would be neat to have an app that would show the location and size of famous science fiction ships along with a standard starmap.

I wanted a logo that could be made into an animation, so the rocket shape for “Geek” was an easy place to start. The Augmented Reality mode icon was another no-brainer, taking inspiration from Jordi’s visor on Star Trek.
The search icon is so ubiquitous that it’s difficult to redo it; the magnifying glass has become an image that is immediately identifiable. I chose to try to tackle that because it was hard, turning it into a radar screen without losing the typical shapes we look for on an app.
